Phil Woodmore Singers

The Phil Woodmore Singers assembled in 2017 after Artist Director ofTheater of War Company, Bryan Doerries commissioned Phil Woodmore tocompose musical selections for Antigone in Ferguson, a show based on anew translation of the classic Greek play, which premiered in Saint Louis, MOon September 17, 2016.  The choir is comprised of members of the SaintLouis Metropolitan Police Department Choir, Trinity Community Church Choir,students from the Center of Creative Arts (COCA) in University City, as wellas singers from the greater Saint Louis community.  Four talented musiciansaccompany the choir: Sergeant Ja’Mes Davis on saxophone, Assistant Chiefof Police Jason Davis on keyboard, Bernard Long Jr. on drums, and PastorWillie D. Woodmore on guitar.  Phil Woodmore, a Saint Louis native, hasbeen directing choirs for the past eighteen years and is grateful for theopportunity to direct the Phil Woodmore Singers.  Since the premiere ofAntigone in Ferguson, the choir has performed at the Onassis Center in NewYork, the PopTech Conference in Camden, Maine, Coppin State University inBaltimore, Maryland, the BRIC organization in Brooklyn, New York,Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, Williams College inWilliamstown, Massachusetts, and Holy Cross College in Worchester,Massachusetts. The Phil Woodmore Singers made their national debut lastsummer at the Veil Prophet Parade on July will be traveling to Greece toworkshop Antigone in Ferguson followed by a performance in Brooklyn, NewYork in July. The Phil Woodmore Singers will be making their national debutthis summer at the Veiled Prophet Parade on July 1 st . The group performed inthe opening number, sang on a float presentation and performed an originalarrangement of America the Beautiful written by director Phil Woodmoreduring the finale. Also last summer the Phil Woodmore Singers had the honorof traveling to Greece for an Antigone in Ferguson workshop andperformance followed by a performance in Brooklyn, New York July 2017.Director Phil Woodmore is happy to announce that his second project with theTheater of War Company, the Drum Major Instinct, will be traveling back toAthens, Greece for its international debut June 2018. We are excited to seewhat God has put before us and look forward to what lies ahead.
